Is it just me?

mood: crappy crappy

Is it my imagination or have writers been especially quiet lately? All the boards I visit are calm as frozen water. My critique group that has always been excessively chatty and busy is all but dead. I find it very discouraging and depressing. I know publishing houses don't do much in August, but I have never seen anything like this in several years.
Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe I forgot my deodorant.

I think many of the writers are teachers.. so they are getting back into new schedules.
And I think most of the writers are parents.. so they are getting little peeps ready for school.
AND, I think the publishing houses have been quiet!

you smell just fine!

It's hard to believe after this weekend summer will be officially over. What a drag. I love autumn though.

Hugs to both of you!

It will pick up -- we'll all get settled into September and hopefully have more time for each other and for good things.

Planning a conference is a great way to take your mind off the waiting game! Plus you get to chat with cool publishing people who offer to send 2 galleys for each particiant!!!

Ditto on the conference...there's one in Denver next weekend with Rachel Vater, Kristin Nelson, Dan Lazar -- and many others...sigh. But it's also almost $300 -- not gonna happen! Oh, well. DH is taking the kids to his mom's this weekend, so at least I'll have a little time to ponder life and reorganize ;)

Wow! That one would be great! Do you live near Denver? I'd love to meet Dan Lazar even though he rejected my book. Have a ball this weekend. Maybe take a long, hot bubble bath.

I can imagine, Kelsey. It probably seems like it's taking forever. But that book will sell, I know it. And you pbs too. And then you will look back and think it was hardly any time at all. Hang in there. And get busy on Emma, girl.

No, Linda, it's not the deordorant issue.
It's the breath.
haha--just kidding! You're right, though; our crit group does seem quiet. But you're working on RAIN, right?

Hi MB. It's raining here, ha ha, no pun intended and I fell asleep. Are you getting rain? No thunder and wind so far. Yes, I'm working on Rain, but I'm really stuck and it's sounding just as bad as it did before. Aaaarrrrhhhhhgggggg! You still didn't send me any cukes. pout

I am just waiting...waiting...waiting and polishing...polishing...polishing. Not very exciting stuff. It seemed to me things were quiet for a few months this spring then there was a string of "good news" on Verla's then more quiet. I am feeling discouraged with all the quiet, too. I suppose it will pick up soon for both of us. Hang in there!

It's been a hard August...my face-to-face crit partner has been swamped with work, and we've barely gotten to meet...one of my online crit groups is struggling -- and I've had two migraines in under three weeks -- yuck!! Let's hope Sept brings in something new and wonderful.

It is quiet. Everywhere in writing land.

Well. I did get a REJECTION this week. From Delacorte Press. My best rejection yet, but still a rejection.

I've been feeling very down and frusterated with the whole writing nonsense too......

I know that I"m especially quiet because I just moved. ^_^ And because of everything being in boxes and all that I've clocked almost no time on the computer. So, I really am not in the loop/have nothing cool to report. Except that I am finally starting to see an end to my boxes. ^_~

I read in a Reader's Digest that next to death of a loved one, divorce, and serious illness moving is the next most stressful thing. Hope you get settled soon and don't see a box for a long time. Unless it is full of chocolates.

Now see, all you had to do was ask how come it's so quiet here, and look at all the people lined up in the comments. We were just looking for a party invitation, which your post provided. :)

I wondered the same thing about the crit group--I even got paranoid enough to wonder if they (you'all) had deleted me from the group! thx for letting me know I'm not paranoid--or if I am, so are you!
Heck, I quit wearing deodorant for the web....now I've got one more thing to worry about!

Hi Sandi,
Is that your dog? My dog died a couple weeks ago. She was 17. Yeah, I guess that group is caput, but we can keep trading. Do you have anything now?

Yep, that's my Beauregard (Bo). He's 6 and a real character. I remember when your dog went to doggy Heaven and I know how hard that was for you. As for swapping crits, I'm working on something I will send to you soon, and I have the REAL first chapter of RAIN that I'm working on tonight. It makes sense to me now...and I think it REALLY improved the story-starting this way.
Rain, rain go away. Come again another day. That rhyme fits us down here in TN right now and sounds like something Norma might have said over and over during that scary ride home.....
