So, what writer's craft books do you like best?

At the moment, I'm revising SOME RAIN MUST FALL with the help of WRITING THE BREAKOUT NOVEL WORKBOOK, by Donald Maass.  It is really helping me to bring my characters to life.  I have never been happy with RAIN, but now I'm actually starting to fall in love with it.

Rob is designing my website around this book now, instead of DUMPS.  It is going to be sooooo cool.  I'm letting DUMPS sit a while, just like I did RAIN.  Maybe some day I will be able to spruce it up, but not right now.

Also, I'm having computer problems.  I can't send or receive e-mail.  Hopefully, it will be fixed tomorrow.  If not, cover your ears.

Anyway,  clue me in to your favorite revision books.  I really want to know.

Ooh, I've got Maass' WORKBOOK sitting on my desk right now too! The last writing book I bought was actually for screenwriters: WRITING FOR EMOTIONAL IMPACT by Karl Iglesias, but it still has lots of good information for fiction writers too.

Now that's one I don't have. I'll have to give it a try.

I like MY LIFE AS A NOVELIST by MB ??? (can't remember her last name. That's odd).
Another good one is Wendy Lamb's Crafting Stories for Children.
Also like The First Five Pages.
I've never read Writing the Breakout Novel. How about you buy it for me for a belated birthday present?

I went to a Donald Maas workshop and bought the book. THought it was fab. Used it for my last YA and thought it made it alot stronger.

Good luck with revisions!

I have the Donald Maass workbook too. Two years ago I went to one of his workshops. He gave great advice.

I love STEIN ON WRITING by Sol Stein. I also went to his workshop back in January. He's one feisty older guy but he also gave great suggestions on revising your manuscript.

I have SELF-EDITING FOR FICTION WRITERS. It's also great for helping out when you are doing revisions.

My favorite craft book is Story by Robery McKee. I think it goes into more depth than any other book. It is geared toward screenwriting but it is great for the novelist. It is a lot to get into and digest.

I'll check out the Workbook you mention. I have the book that goes with it.
